direction-branching
Direction Branching
Compare materially different visual routes when substantial creative work leaves the direction open, then select for audience, content, assets, and responsive fit.
PatternsRecommended
Intent
Prevent the first category association or most dramatic treatment from becoming the design and create genuine structural variety before implementation.
Checks
- Make each candidate differ in primary carrier, page silhouette, typography voice, color or material logic, and section rhythm.
- Include at least one restrained candidate that does not depend on giant type, fluorescent color, or technical decoration.
- Select by audience fit, truthful subject evidence, available assets, content needs, production fit, and responsive viability.
Warnings
- Do not choose the loudest route merely because it looks most different from a generic template.
Exceptions
- Skip branching for narrow repairs, selected references, established systems, and short budgets; strict enterprise tools prioritize operational clarity.
